File rename - 2 suggestions only matched data, history
Suggestion #1
Can an option to rename only the matched data, leaving the rest of the file name intact be considered.
Hypothetical example:
ORIGINAL: random name 01 (of 08) (2010) (Digital) (c2c) (Bob-Jane).cbz
CURRENT: Random Name #001 (of 08) (2009).cbz
PROPOSED: Random Name #001 (of 08) (2009) (Digital) (c2c) (Bob-Jane).cbz
Suggestion #2
Only allow renames on cbz that have existing metadata. This way you can store the original file name in the metadata ensuring even the worst renaming mistakes can be reverted.

Suggestion #1 would be tricky given the way the code is written, and I don't see implementing it anytime soon.
#2 isn't a bad idea. Do you use the GUI or CLI? I also have on my possible feature list to add checkboxes to the GUI preview, so you can skip the renames that you don't like.

I've got a suggestion about the file rename, can it be made so that when we tag a file with auto-tag, it automatically renames the files?

Understood. Its a pity because the current rename can throw away information that is impossible to get back. In general I think renaming is pretty evil but given the impossibly diverse naming schemes out there I see no real current alternative. Even names that look similar in fact turn out to be so differernt as to make matching very hard. I have had some success though.
Currently I use the GUI but have no objections to using the CLI. However given that suggestion #1 will likely not happen I wont be using CT renaming features. I am however happy to test anything you need tested. Just let me know.ComicTagger wrote:#2 isn't a bad idea. Do you use the GUI or CLI? Makes sense. I would suggest though that my suggestion #2 comes first because that level of automation needs some sort of roll back.
