Scrape Imprint Data? Empty Scrape Imprint Data?

Post  kev0153 Tue May 07, 2013 7:48 am

Not sure if this would be possible, and it definitely falls on the back burner as far as requests but I was wondering if comicTagger could scrape imprint data.

Right now imprints are a subfolder of their respective publishers in my file structure. DC Comics/Vertigo etc.. I have a script that I wrote that moves comics to the correct folder based on the xml data contained in the comicrack tag. Is is possible for comicTagger to scrape the imprint data (if there) and store it in the tag?

Scrape Imprint Data? Empty Re: Scrape Imprint Data?

As far as Comic Vine is concerned, there is no specific imprint data to "scrape". (This is not technically scraping, though, as CV provides a direct API to query their database.) There is only "publisher" info. So if you get info about the "Sandman" series by Neil Gaiman, its publisher is "Vertigo".

It would be possible, though, to create a mapping of series/publisher strings to series/publisher/imprint, and use a ComicTagger-based script to read in those mappings, and fill in the imprint data into the ComicInfo.xml (ComicRack tags). I have seen something like this on the ComicRack forums. I don't know if it's a separate CR plugin, or if it's part of Comic Vine Scraper.

Right now, I don't have any interest in adding these mappings and the use of them into the ComicTagger app proper. However, if you want to try to write a CLI script to do this, I'll be happy to help!
